We have asked our students to share their journeys so you can follow along with them! Hector’s first impression of New York is below. Enjoy!
I arrived to New York and right away I was heading towards south Harlem where our apartment is located. The first thing I noticed is that there are a lot of restaurants and I was just thinking about the future and how much food I am going to taste, learn about and cook.
Something else I noticed about New York City was that almost all the streets and avenues look alike. I was excited about this because I really like to just walk around and get lost, I always like to do this for the reason that unplanned things are always fun and that’s how I discover new spots and restaurants. The weather here in New York is perfect, I’ve always loved the cold and now I can have it whenever I step outside!
My expectations during the program and my time at the International Culinary Center are the chance for me to gain a large amount of knowledge and experience that will help me in the future on my culinary career.
Me personally, I am not nervous about my time here in New York, actually I am the opposite; I’m really exited about all the things I am going to learn, experience, achieve and enjoy. Right now, I can’t wait to go to school and start working here.
Places I want to visit while I am here in New York are the Central Park Zoo, Statue of Liberty, ODB and Biggie Smalls murals, Twin Towers Memorial, Empire State Building, New York Public Library, Coney Island, Chinatown, Little Italy, Koreatown, Bronx Zoo and I would like to attend a Broadway play or musical.
The restaurants I’d like to visit and dishes I ‘d love to try are the famous pork buns from Momofuku and the Korean BBQ from Cote, I’m not very familiar on New York restaurants yet, but I’m sure this list will grow very quickly.
This fist week in New York has been amazing can’t wait for what I will see and try in the future.
